Serve with:
Serve with whole grain mustard or German mustard on the side
Add a dollop of horseradish cream for extra kick
Serve with sauerkraut for an authentic German meal
Include pickled cucumbers (cornichons) on the side
Serve with crusty bread
Storage Tips:
Cooked patties: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Reheat in a pan over medium heat or in the oven at 160°C (320°F) for 10-15 minutes until warmed through.
Raw patties: You can form the patties and refrigerate them uncooked for up to 24 hours before cooking, or freeze them for up to 3 months. Place parchment paper between each patty to prevent sticking. Thaw frozen patties in the fridge overnight before cooking.
Roasted vegetables: Store in the fridge for 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven or eat cold in salads.
Adaptations:
Use all ground beef (1.3kg total) if beef tartare is hard to find or very expensive – the patties will be slightly less tender but still delicious.
Include fresh herbs like parsley, dill, or chives directly in the meat mixture.
Try different vegetables – sweet potatoes, parsnips, beets, or Brussels sprouts all taste amazing.
Make them spicy by adding chili flakes or fresh chopped jalapeños to the meat mixture.
Use different meat blends – beef and pork, beef and lamb, or turkey for a lighter option.
Make mini patties for appetizers or kids' meals.
